SUMMARY
The Indian Health Service (IHS) requires an Information Technology Specialists to provide non-personal IT services for the Santa Fe Indian Health Center (SFIHC) and its satellite clinics. The specialists are responsible for maintaining system operations, supporting cloud environments, and ensuring the technical needs of healthcare providers and patients are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
System & Cloud Management: Manage and maintain virtual machine environments in cloud platforms, including configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, security, backups, and disaster recovery.Infrastructure Support: Support Windows systems, Application support for RPMS and EHR (Electronic Health Records), and maintain server standards.Helpdesk Services: Diagnose and resolve software, hardware, and network connectivity issues via the ServiceNow Portal.Network Operations: Identify and resolve network malfunctions, perform routine maintenance/performance evaluations, and manage Active Directory user accounts.Maintenance & Security: Apply OS patches, perform security monitoring, and execute hardware/resource optimization.Confidentiality: Strict adherence to HIPAA standards, the Privacy Act, and IHS-specific security policies are required for managing medical information.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Windows systems, ServiceNow, virtual machine (VM) cloud platforms, and Active Directory.Certifications: Must be a Certified Network Specialist (CNA) and a certified VM cloud server professional.Systems Knowledge: Experience with RPMS, EHR, SharePoint servers, and VOIP phone applications.Soft Skills: Ability to provide training sessions to end-users and communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field. Must provide proof of degree.Specific Experience Requirements:5 years of VM Cloud server experience (active cert).5 years as a Network Administrator (active cert).5–10 years of Helpdesk support.3–10 years of general Computer IT specialist support.2–5 years of SharePoint and VOIP application experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This role works independently without direct supervision following program needs. However, the specialist may be required to provide direction to at least one support IT staff member from IHS as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed in a healthcare facility setting, specifically within the IHS Service Units and Health Centers. The environment involves interaction with multicultural patients and may require working alongside interpreters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Type: Firm-Fixed-Price, Non-Personal Health Care Services contract.Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (40 hours per week).Additional Duties: Assigned On-Call duties, weekends, and holidays as required by the facility.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
The specialist is required to travel between the primary health center and the three satellite clinics in Cochiti, San Felipe, and Santa Clara. Travel to and from the facility site is not included in the tour of duty.
CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Security: Successful completion of fingerprinting and Level I and II background investigations (CNACI).License: A valid driver’s license to operate Government-Owned (GSA) vehicles.Health: Documented immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, and Influenza, plus a recent TB test (TB must be within last 12 mo.).Child Protection Compliance: Because the role may involve contact with children, candidates must pass character investigations required by the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
